Cut ’em out, Ride ’em in, Cut ’em out, RAWHIDE!
Ah, the legislative session is underway! Bills are being filed and soon hearings will be held. There are several sunshine law bills, including but not limited to House Bill 1445. When a hearing on that bill is scheduled, it will be time for those in the public who believe in Sunshine to make their voices heard!
Meanwhile, today I heard from a reporter with an interesting question. Seems the local chamber of commerce wanted to hold a retreat to discuss a number of important issues. Those members thought it would be a good idea to invite the local city councils and county commissioners. But surely they wouldn’t have to make that a meeting open to the public, would they?
Well, I’m afraid to say that if wishes were horses, we’d have enough to have the largest roundup ever seen in Kansas City. No, I’m afraid if you invite these members of a public governmental body and a quorum shows up, you not only need to allow the public to attend but you also need to post notice of the meeting and keep minutes!
I’m betting the meeting doesn’t happen. Sunshine is too much for some folks!
See you soon in Jeff City!
