Monday Monday won’t go away. Monday Monday it’s here to stay.

    I should have reminded folks long ago.  But it’s not too late!  Monday afternoon is the Missouri Sunshine Coalition’s festivities for Sunshine Week, which starts this coming Sunday!

    The coalition is sponsoring a panel discussion beginning at 4 p.m. at Fischer Auditorium in Gannett Hall at the University of Missouri campus, Columbia.  The discussion, focusing on last year’s investigative reporting stories on the E-coli controversy at the Lake of the Ozarks area, includes Karen Dillon, Kansas City Star reporter, Chad Livengood, from the Springfield News Leader, and Tony Messenger, from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

    The coalition is going to hand out awards to its sunshine heroes in the state.  These winners will be submitted to the American Society of News Editors for consideration for a national award.

    No need to RSVP.  Just show up.  We’ll look forward to seeing you there!

    Uh, on second thought, if you are a member of a public body and expect a quorum of your body to show up, it might be a good idea to post a notice of your meeting.  I’m just sayin’…. 

    A few weeks ago, some of you same folk decided to attend in mass a meeting with our esteemed Attorney General.  Now the AG alone doesn’t constitute a public body.  But when a quorum of YOUR body shows up to meet with him, like you did in northwest Missouri (you know who you are… don’t try to hide!) and then discuss publicly with him a matter of public business (spell that “Premium Standard Farms”), you are breaking the law.  If he has considered bringing suit for sunshine law violations, I wonder if he has a list of who attended?

    Didja think about that in advance?  Course not!  Get the book out, folks.  Read it for a change! It’s sunshine week!
