I really can’t stay – Baby it’s cold outside. I’ve got to go away – Baby it’s cold outside
Feel that cold chill running up and down your spine? Perhaps it’s the thought that you should not have locked that reporter outside in the cold while you held your closed school board meeting the other night. Apparently he knocked repeatedly on the door before someone heard him and let him come inside.
I guess the board president, who reportedly is a lawyer, did not read that part of the sunshine law in Section 610.022 (3) where it says “Publicgovernmental bodies holding a closed meeting shall close only anexisting portion of the meeting facility necessary to house the membersof the public governmental body in the closed session, allowing membersof the public to remain to attend any subsequent open session held bythe public governmental body following the closed session.”
While we’re at it, one must also ask was there an open meeting where a vote was taken to go into the closed session? Or did you just decide that since you posted the meeting, you didn’t need to take that vote? And, perhaps it might be better to have someone else proofread your notices, since you cited exception 2 as your reason to close (ie: the real estate exception), and then noted the meeting was regarding personnel matters….
Clear case of brain freeze, if you ask me.
