Black and White, But Apparently NOT Read Anywhere
Let’s say you have an advisory board — a 911 advisory board. Let’s say they never vote
— they just meet to take input from citizens or with a 911 consultant. Does that trigger sunshine
law requirements? Is that board subject to the sunshine law?
Why are these things so confusing, sometimes I wonder? This board was appointed by the
county commission. It reports to the county commission. How can it be anything except a
committee appointed by or at the direction of a public governmental body for the specific
purpose of recommending … policy revisions or expenditure of public funds…. (610.010 4 e)?
It meets. At these meetings, public business is discussed…. (610.010 5).
The sunshine law is really quite simple and how public bodies can get so confused just baffles
me sometimes.
